A large number of people converged on the grounds of Government House where Governor and Mrs. Andrew George entertained them at a delightful Christmas party on Monday evening, December 18.

The mass of Christmas presents for children

The party was held under the theme – Help to make giving the spirit of this Christmas. Accordingly, the many guests filed through the gate bearing various gifts for the island’s children – an annual event at Government House.
A well-adorned note to guests read: “We are asking our guests to donate a toy to be distributed by the church organisation to the needy children on our island.
“Please wrap the gift and label boy/girl and approximate age and pop it into the toy tub which will be near the gate as you come into the party. Thank you for your generosity.”
Not only was the toy tub overflowing with the gifts but the bags as well.

Addressing the guests, Governor George told them: “I am happy to see so many people here this evening with so many other parties going on. It is the first year that my wife and I have been here in Anguilla and in the few months we lived on the island, we have already come to know a great many people.
“The biggest characteristic of this island is the great friendliness, warmth and hospitality extended to visitors and residents who come from elsewhere and we have certainly been very much enjoying that.

“Christmas is also of course very much a time for families and we are very lucky this year to be able to have my father, visiting from Scotland, and my daughter. A happy announcement which makes Christmas extra-special for us is that last night (Sunday, December 17) my daughter got engaged to Matthew who is here with us. We are very pleased to welcome him into the family…”
He then wished everyone a very happy Christmas and a very prosperous New Year, and invited them to enjoy the party.
