BANKS, BENJAMIN FOR MONTE CARLO

A two-man delegation from Anguilla will be spending several days in Monte Carlo at the invitation of officials there. They are Minister of Finance Victor Banks who will be representing Chief Minister Osbourne Fleming and Chairman of the Tourist Board, John Benjamin. Their travel to Europe was arranged from Friday March 28 to Tuesday of next week when they are expected to return to Anguilla.

Mr. Banks and Mr. Benjamin will be attending several official engagements while in Monte Carlo. On Monday March 31 they will attend the opening ceremony of a floating concrete jetty, said to be one of the world’s largest berthing facilities with 500 parking lots for vehicles and other facilities. They will have an opportunity to address officials at a cocktail party and to meet with newly-elected parliamentarians at separate functions.

The visit will also give them an opportunity to meet high profile persons including Prince Albert and to arrange visits to Anguilla for tourism promotion during the summer season as well as to explore investment possibilities on the island. They will also meet with Air France officials to discuss the need for more seats for tourists wishing to travel to Anguilla.

According to Mr. Benjamin the trip will enable them to meet officials of the Monte Carlo Yacht Club and to discuss matters relating to the sponsoring of the yacht regatta to be held in Anguilla in May as part of an effort to attract more visitors to the island during the summer season when Europeans normally travel abroad on vacation.

Last October, Mr.Benjamin and Mr. Leslie Lloyd, a long-standing member of the Anguilla Tourist Board, visited Monte Carlo on a promotional trip. That visit resulted in a tour to Anguilla by a number of business-related officials from the small by affluent Mediterranean island. It is expected that this visit by Mr. Banks and Mr. Benjamin will also result in a trip to the island by a number of high profile officials and other persons they will be targeting.
