| Publishing date: 04.06.2010 12:10 |
Malliouhana Hotel and Spa, and Anguilla in general, in the context of an up-market destination, are to get some much-needed valuable publicity in the travel trade press. The writer is Jacqueline Johnson, a frontline tourism consultant who has been on the island as a guest at Malliouhana and has been struck by the cleanliness and attractiveness of the hotel, the beach it overlooks, and the beauty of Anguilla on a whole. She writes for some five travel agent magazines and other up-scale publications as well as her various websites.

Mrs. Jacqueline Johnson

The Jamaican-born Mrs. Johnson lives in Connecticut, in the United States, where she is very involved in tourism and related matters. She is a certified travel councilor and lecturer and sits on the Board of Directors of the Caribbean Tourism Organisation and its Executive Council. Among other responsibilities, she is a member of the Association of Travel Marketing Executives and a member of the Africa Travel Association. She is also the owner of several websites pertaining to tourism information, with a specialty in the wedding and honeymoon market.
Mrs. Johnson met informally with Chief Minister and Minister of Tourism, Hubert Hughes, with whom she has a long acquaintance, at the Anguilla Day celebration. “At this time I am doing an editorial overview not only on Anguilla, but on Malliouhana Hotel where I stayed,” she told The Anguillian. “The article will go directly to the entire travel agent base in the North American market and Canada. Travel agents are becoming more and more important than ever because Americans, who are looking to spend more money, will use a travel agent versus the internet. They go to the internet to search for information, but when they are doing a high-end booking, they want to make sure that someone is there to guide them along the way and make the process easier.”
Speaking about Malliouhana Hotel and Spa, where she was a guest, she stated: “It is absolutely fabulous. The management is unbelievably gracious and the staff is wonderful. From what I have seen, they have minimal turnover; the guests stay long, and oh, the hotel is clean. I travel the world and I am telling you, this is a clean hotel. It is sparkling clean. Basically, for my article, I wanted to see the physical structure of the hotel, the quality of the rooms, the amenities that are offered and the activities for visiting couples and the children’s quarters. Obviously the beach is unbelievable and there is nothing else you can describe it as, except it is paradise. So far, so good, I am very impressed with Anguilla.”
Mrs. Johnson, who took the opportunity to see other areas of Anguilla as a destination, added: “I am passionate about the business of tourism.
I live tourism; I sleep tourism; I eat tourism. But for my most important work, I am also the chairwoman of the Caribbean Tourism Organisation’s Foundation which raises funds to educate Caribbean nationals in language training and tourism.” She is encouraging deserving Anguillians wishing to undertake studies in the tourism field to apply to the CTO for scholarships, especially when they are advertised.
