Anguillian Cricketer Doing Well

Anguillian cricketer, Chesney Hughes, playing for Derbyshire County Cricket Club in England, is doing very well, according to Cardigan Connor, who has been part of his development.
“He is very positive in the sense that as part of the season, Derbyshire County Cricket Club had a tour to Barbados where he performed pretty well over the period of two weeks,” Connor stated.

“When he returned to England he was selected to play in a number of the one-day matches in what is called 'a Clyde Bank 40' sponsored tournament. We can see that tournament on channel 28 and a number of people, not just in Anguilla, but throughout the Caribbean, were able to see Chesney score 41 in his television debut against North Hamptonshire, so that was very impressive for him. To follow on from that, he ended up making his first class debut at Lords Test County Cricket. There he scored 41 in the first innings under difficult circumstances for the team and then 59 not out in the second innings. He is doing very well.”

Last year, during the four-month off season, Chesney returned to Anguilla and engaged in making certain that he stayed in good shape. “When he got back to England, the coach was impressed that in the off season he still paid a lot of attention to his development,” Connor reported. “Since then, he has been rewarded by being selected in the first team and at this time he is doing pretty well with the bat.”
