Anguilla Delegation To Brussels And London


One month after winning the general election and forming the Anguilla United Movement Government, an official delegation left the island on Tuesday, March 16, for visits to Brussels and London.

The delegation, headed by Chief Minister, Hubert Hughes, also comprises Minister of Social Development, Edison Baird, Permanent Secretary, Economic Development, Aidan Harrigan, and Legal Counsel, Josephine Gumbs-Connor.

Governor Alistair Harrison has also left for London for talks with British Government officials.
The Government delegation will be having its first meeting in Brussels along with other delegations from the Overseas Territories. It is expected that the agenda will include monetary grants and other assistance from the European Union, which has funded the visit. Chief Minister Hughes will take the opportunity, as Minister of Finance, to sign Tax Information Exchange Agreements with Germany and Australia.

The delegation will later travel to London for talks with the British Government on Anguilla’s financial situation.

The Governor is expected to return to Anguilla on Tuesday, March 23. The Government delegation is expected to be back on the island on March 27.
