KENNEDY HODGE THANKS DISTRICT 1, SAYS ISSUES STILL THERE TO BE ADDRESSED |

Kennedy Hodge, Independent Candidate for District 1 in Anguilla’s just-concluded General Elections, is thanking the people of District 1 for their support and best wishes. Hodge said that while there were a number of different dynamics that caused people to switch votes at the last minute, he received nothing but encouragement and best wishes from the people, even from those whom he knew were supporting other candidates.

Hodge says he was particularly heartened by the general consensus in the District that he ran a clean campaign, and that his platform was the best at both identifying the issues facing the District, and Anguilla as a whole, and at presenting them in a clear and easily understandable manifesto.
Hodge went on to remind the people of District 1 and Anguilla that these issues are all still there to be addressed. Listing some of the issues, including the development of a culture of representation; heading off a looming foreclosure crisis; implementation of Universal Health Care; provision of facilities for our youth and elderly; development of agriculture using modern technologies; major investment to dramatically upgrade our fishing industry; economic development in the eastern end of Anguilla; constitutional reform including a substantially larger and more inclusive House of Assembly; and the reduction of the cost of electricity by deploying viable alternative energy technologies, Hodge says that if these issues are not thoroughly addressed Anguilla’s development will not be sustainable.
Hodge said that democracy is about the voice of the people being heard, and not just heard but also heeded. The people of Anguilla had spoken in the just-concluded elections, and their voice had to be listened to. He offered all those elected his congratulations, and wished the new government success as their success would be Anguilla’s success.
Hodge ended by saying that his candidacy was about offering himself to serve the people of District 1 and Anguilla. In keeping with his desire to serve, he would be constantly bringing the issues identified in his manifesto before the Government and seeking its support for their implementation. In particular, he feels that a feasibility study for a comprehensive waterfront project at Island Harbour in the Government’s new budget would be a good, cost-effective way of starting the process of stimulating Anguilla’s economic revival.
