Former Chief Minister Praised For His Work


The former Chief Minister of Anguilla, Mr. Osbourne Fleming, was given much commendation for his service to the island during the 29 years of his political career. The ceremony, chaired by Permanent Secretary, Foster Rogers, was organised by members of his staff and was held on the grounds of the Secretariat on Thursday, February 11.

Three former Permanent Secretaries, Franklin Connor, Ralph Hodge and Rodney Rey, who worked with Mr. Fleming, praised him for his commitment, kindness and love of country; his interest and care for his staff and his statesmanship.

Former Chief Minister, Sir Emile Gumbs, with whom Mr. Fleming worked as one of his ministers, congratulated him on his long political career. Sir Emile acknowledged that those were difficult times but that he and Mr. Fleming got on well. He took the opportunity to wish him a happy retirement and added that he should be proud of his record of service.

Mr. Fleming’s colleagues, Mr. Victor Banks, Mr. Kenneth Harrigan, Mr. Evans Rogers, Mr. Albert Hughes and Mr. Eric Reid, joined in praising Mr. Fleming for his leadership, generosity and goodwill. He was presented with a plaque by senior employee at the Chief Minister’s Office, Cassandra Hodge-Patterson, who also thanked him for his service and the excellent relationship he shared with his staff.

The former Chief Minister was grateful to all for their kind remarks. He was proud that he had been able to contribute to the development of Anguilla, the personal development of a number of persons in the public service and in the community. He said he would continue to maintain an active interest in the affairs of the island and extended every good wish to all.

The luncheon ceremony was attended by many persons representing the public and private sectors.
