Pupils At Morris Vanterpool Primary School Engaged In Career Fair

Many students at the Morris Vanterpool Primary School at East End are now aware of what it means to work towards a career during and after their schooling. This awareness was brought home to them by their Guidance Councillor, Vivienne Fleming, and members of the teaching staff who held a very successful Careers Day Fair at the school as a pilot project for other primary schools across the island.

“Our children have been working very hard and have done their presentations,” Mrs. Fleming told The Anguillian on Friday, February 12, which her school dubbed as Careers Fair Day. “Many children participated in the fair. They did their research and interviewed somebody of their career choice, wrote a paper on them, came to school in their career attire and made their presentations on why they chose a particular career.”

Asked about the importance of creating an awareness of careers among children at such an early age, she had this to say: “It is very important for them because we want them to start thinking very seriously about school and to focus on what career they want to follow. I am the Guidance Councillor for the school and for a long time I have been planning this career fair day. It gives the students a chance to appreciate other people and their careers.

“My thanks to the teachers who have worked very hard helping me to put this fair together,” Mrs. Fleming added. “I really appreciate that. I am happy that it was done. This was a pilot career fair and next year we will be going to another school as we want this to be an annual function at different schools.”
