The latest in the series occurred on January 30 when the Police responded to three reports of burglary: one at Jumbo Plaza on the Water Swamp Road, one at Ace Hardware at South Hill and the other at Best Buy on the Long Path. A fourth burglary occurred at Island Harbour.
Among the stolen items from the various locations were LCD television sets, laptop computers, a computer monitor, a cordless telephone, watches and a sum of money.
The Police are appealing to anyone with information regarding these burglaries to contact the Criminal Investigation Department or any officer.
The burglaries were among 13 crimes committed during the period January 27 to February 3. There were also 9 reports of theft at Sandy Ground, Rey Hill, South Hill, North Hill, Shoal Bay, Welches, West End and The Forest. The stolen items included vehicle batteries, car tyres, clothing, a cellular phone, jewelry, a car stereo set and money.
The report, given by Inspector Emris Rogers, stated that there were 6 arrests during the period. Those arrested were one male on suspicion of theft; one female and two males to prevent a breach of the peace; one male for driving under the influence of alcohol and another male person for immigration purposes.
There were ten minor traffic accidents.
Deputy Commissioner, Rudolph Proctor, spent much time speaking on matters related to the February 15 General Election. “The Supervisor of Elections and the Elections Act are very clear in relation to offences,” he remarked. “What we would say from a Police perspective is that if these [offences] are brought to the Supervisor of Elections and are reported to the Police … we would look into the reports and if there is evidence to prosecute, we will do that.”
Mr. Proctor appealed to persons engaging in activities leading to offences, mentioned by the Supervisor of Elections under the Act that they should refrain from doing so. Just like any other report to the Police, where there is some criminal intention behind it, we will investigate it and if there is evidence, we will bring charges before the court.”
In the meantime, the Deputy Commissioner advised all motorists not to place political posters or stickers on the front or back windshields of their vehicles. He said there were some cases involving this type of offence and warned that persons found in breach of the traffic regulations would be prosecuted.
