While these cases are of much concern to the police, they are particularly worried about a robbery at the Chinese Restaurant in The Quarter where an assailant, carrying a firearm, demanded a money bag from one of the proprietors outside the building. The bag, containing money, was handed over to the man who then left the premises.
Inspector Paul Sinclair said he had assigned a detective to develop an intelligence picture of the incident to determine the identity of the person and to be able to deal with any future occurrence. He stressed that if anyone were to be attacked by an assailant with a weapon it would be wise to comply with any demand as the attacker would use his weapon.
Meanwhile, Mr. Sinclair disclosed that a man found illegally in Anguilla and wanted by St. Maarten police was deported from the island.
Other matters reported by the Police included one case of wounding. There was also a case of vandalism of an APP billboard in the name of Pam Webster at Island Harbour. The Deputy Commissioner stressed that such incidents were foreign to Anguilla and were initial signs of disorder.
Five arrests were made during the January 6-13 period as follows: One male on suspicion of sexual assault on a minor; two males were arrested for causing grievous bodily harm; one male was arrested on a default warrant and another male on an immigration matter.
