| Publishing date: 11.01.2010 09:41 |
January 5, 2010 was an amazing first for the Teacher Gloria Omololu Institute! Fifteen years and four months after it was founded by Dr Oluwakemi M Linda Banks in 1994 the Institute has at last found its permanent home, a beautiful learning village!

Excited students, devoted teachers and proud parents of the Institute gathered this morning for their opening Assembly and Circle Time in the courtyard, of the school village, surrounded by four colourful cottages in yellow, pink, blue and purple which house eight rooms for preschool and primary classes and an administrative office. An additional building which resembles a doll house is a delight to behold with its myriad of pastel colours reflecting all the other buildings. This cottage houses the Play School class where children are welcomed from the age of eighteen months. The buildings, which are built in traditional Anguillian style, have shingled roofs and will later sport ginger bread designs and colourful hurricane shutters. The grounds will also be landscaped to include beautiful flora and fauna and fruit trees, and well planned playground facilities.

During the opening Assembly, Reverend Careen White led the children in devotions and singing and Ms Dahlia Shields, principal, urged the children to celebrate the fantastic accomplishment. Founder and Executive Director, Dr Oluwakemi M Linda Banks, motivated the students never to give up on their dreams as she was now waking up to the realization of her 15-year dream. She encouraged them in the words of the school song, which she had composed, to confidently follow their dreams, and with hand in hand help each other to: “Reach for the Summit!”
A formal opening ceremony is being planned for the Omololu school at a date to be announced later, and to which former and present parents, students, teachers and directors, community and government partners and well wishers will be invited. The Institute’s plans include expansion into secondary, tertiary and community education, a Fine Arts and Cultural Centre and swimming facilities.
Staff and management of the Teacher Gloria Omololu Institute thank the Almighty God and all those who have helped them to achieve this phenomenal milestone!
