Two Christmas Babies In Anguilla


Even as Pastor Norril Gumbs, of the First Baptist Church at Welches, was delivering his sermon at the Christmas morning service at the Princess Alexandra Hospital, on the birth of Christ in a manger, maternity nurses there were busily recording the birth of a boy and girl a few hours apart.

The first child to born was Baby West, daughter of Tamika West, 19, of North Side. The birth of the infant came at 5 o’clock at the dawn of Christmas Day and weighed 7 pounds.

The second child, a boy, listed as Baby Gumbs, whose mother is Ishani Gumbs, 23, of Blowing Point, was born at 8.30 a.m. and weighed 4 pounds 7 ounces.
Both Tamika and Ishani are first time mothers.

The Minister of Health, the Hon. Evans Rogers, who was invited to visit the mothers and their infants, presented the parents with Christmas gifts.
