New Year's Message From Director Of Social Security |
| Publishing date: 31.12.2009 11:54 |
The year 2009 dawned with a promise….more than a promise, an assurance of tough economic times as the global financial crisis widened and recession tightened its grip on Anguilla and the rest of the world; so much so that early in 2009 some people were wishing “Happy 2010” because they knew that 2009 was going to be an extremely difficult year. And so it was.

In Social Security, we anticipated that the year 2009 would be difficult and so we selected as our theme “Being Proactive in Challenging Times”. We have therefore increased several of the Social Security Benefits to help cushion beneficiaries against rising costs. In these tough times, government and businesses have been constrained in their support of social and other programmes. We have therefore stepped up to the plate to fill the breach through our Development Fund and other sponsorships. Through these proactive efforts, Social Security continues to provide an invaluable social safety net both through its direct benefits and indirectly to the entire community.
Social Security pledge to continue being a leader in Anguilla’s social and economic development. We are committed to this development and, in that respect, hold fast to our core values of Accountability, Customer Focus, Teamwork, Integrity, Visionary Leadership and Excellence.
Over the years, the Social Security Development Fund has made significant contributions to health, sports, the arts and a variety of other social, cultural and educational activities. This demonstrates that the Anguilla Social Security Board has always remained true to our motto: Improving the Quality of Life for All.
In the New Year we will continue to focus on bringing small businesses and the self-employed on board so that no one is left stranded when the costs associated with illness and other contingencies arrive. Visit our office and speak to one of our courteous and knowledgeable staff about how we can exercise your right to be a part of this national system. Remember, the more you contribute, the greater your benefits.
I trust that you had a wonderful Christmas. And it is a pleasure for me to wish you a happy and healthy New Year on behalf of the Anguilla Social Security Board. I wish that the New Year will bring new opportunities for Anguilla and renewed prosperity to our people.
May God’s blessings be yours throughout 2010 and beyond.
Thank you.
Timothy Hodge
