On December 21, Kids Connect hosted a day of baking cakes and cookies, a world class culinary experience with organizers Latoya & Twyla along with Chef Shawne Bryan of Lifestyle Café. The main aim was to have the participants of the Kids Connect summer camp reconnect for a day of fun! With kitchen safety as priority, some 20 children and special invitee, Neville Webster (most outstanding student from the youth E.S.C.A.P.E – Culinary program), had the opportunity to heighten their culinary skills.

The excitement and willingness of the participants resulted in the making of ice cream, sugar cookies, eggnog, banana bread, sprite cake, brownies, cheesecake, rice crispy treats and corn muffins. At the end of the day, parents marveled at their children's cooking/baking skills and the variety of baked goods presented at the intimate closing ceremony.

Chef Shawne provided feedback, as regards skills utilized throughout the day and some of the children were also able to demonstrate safe kitchen techniques to the parents who were quite pleased with the thought and care that went into the one-day program.

Yet another outstanding program executed by Kids Connect. We knew from the glow on the children’s faces when they saw the finished products, and the ‘ohhs and ahhs’ of the parents when they arrived and saw the wide spread of goodies, that our day was well appreciated. We say thanks to all the parents who entrusted their children in our care for the day and we wish our kids a very happy and healthy New Year!
