REFLECTIONS ON BETHLEHEM

Whenever the Christmas Season comes around, the story surrounding the ancient city of Jerusalem and the birth of the Christ Child takes centre stage. It was therefore not uncommon for the celebrated St. Augustine’s Choral, directed by professional musician Lennox Vanterpool, and the Youth Chorale, led by Margaret Augustus to dub their joint programme on Sunday, December 20, Reflections on Bethlehem.

The programme, to be repeated on Sunday coming, December 27, was witnessed by a capacity congregation from all over the island, whose intermittent applause spoke to the excellent direction and rendition of the various pieces. Aside from the choirs, the congregation got its turn to lustily sing a few of the traditional and well-loved carols, thus adding to the delight of the evening.

The St. Augustine’s Choral, comprising a number of new male members in particular, filed into the Church in dark formal attire, a noticeable departure from the mainly purple robes of the past few years. The programme was opened and carried for some time by the Youth Chorale.
