Inspector Emris Rogers reported that on Saturday, December 12, the police responded to a report of a fight and sounds of gunfire at Sandy Ground. Two young men were later arrested at the Princess Alexander Hospital, one from Sandy Ground and the other from South Hill. Both are suspected to have wounded each other and were detained at the hospital for treatment.
On Sunday, December 13, around 1.00 a.m., police responded to a report of a man being attacked by a group of young men with a machete and knives at the Princess Alexandra Hospital. On arrival, the police found the victim, T.G., on the ground outside the hospital. He had multiple stab and chop wounds. He was treated and was expected to undergo surgery to save his right arm. The police arrested two young men the same night at the hospital. They were taken before the Magistrate on December 15 and remanded to prison. Two others were later arrested and will soon appear before the Magistrate.
Both Deputy Commissioner, Rudolph Proctor, and Inspector Paul Sinclair, said the incidents were serious and could have resulted in death. The lawmen repeated previous warnings to persons that they would be arrested and charged if found carrying weapons in public. It was not believed that the fighting and wounding incidents were gang-related, but had resulted from other forms of disagreement.
In the regular police report, there were nine crimes during the period December 9 and 16. Two robberies were reported in Blowing Point and The Quarter. Only a packet of braids was reported stolen. One attempted burglary occurred at Crocus Bay. A stereo car radio and a case of Vita Malt were stolen.
There were four cases of criminal damage at South Hill, Crocus Bay, Coronation Park and South Valley.
Twelve arrests were reported. One male each was arrested on suspicion of possession of counterfeit money; for possession of cocaine; on suspicion of theft; n suspicion of cultivation of cannabis; to prevent a breach of the peace; for burglary; and six males were arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.
