| Publishing date: 18.12.2009 10:24 |
Coronation Park, in The Valley, covered by a carpet of lush grass, thanks to recent rain, was the ideal venue for the gleaming model vehicles which were brought to Anguilla for the annual Omega Car Show held there on Sunday evening, December 13.

The event, which evolved from what was originally only a car wash business, has become a popular annual show with a large following of young people and owners of high performance and rim-decorated sport cars from Anguilla and neighbouring islands.
The organisers of the annual event are Jason Brooks (as leader) and a Committee of persons who are all committed to furthering the objectives of the show as well as promoting the interests of young people in vehicle ownership, repair and classy decoration. At the same time, there is an element of modeling for young ladies in particular, giving some exposure to boutique clothing on the island, while actively engaged in showcasing the prize-winning vehicles on display.

Jason told The Anguillian that he was pleased that sport car owners from St. Croix, St. Thomas and Tortola in the US and British Virgin Islands had come to Anguilla to join others from St. Martin/St. Maarten and Anguilla thus making the “carfest” bigger. “One of the best things about this show is that there is a different variety and show line of cars including a jeep with 28 rims coming to Anguilla for the first time,” he explained. “It means that the calibre of the car show this year has gone up.”
Anguilla captured four trophies in two categories: first and second place for cleanest engine and first and third place for cleanest vehicle; St. Croix won four trophies in two categories; St. Maarten got four trophies as well in four categories; and BVI was the winner of nine trophies in seven categories. BVI also took the Omega Carfest Title 2009 from Anguilla.

Jason said that a number of young ladies from various parts of the island participated in the car show by posing with the vehicles. “They were also brought together for modeling outfits from local boutiques including ZaZAA, and we also have a group, Twice Clothing, which chose this particular show and came all the way from Canada to participate in it,” he stated.
He stated that the car show was now in its fourth year. “The reason for this event is to encourage the young men in Anguilla in setting up car systems as upcoming mechanics and to develop a trade for themselves. In addition, there are auto sports that can carry them all over the world,” he explained.

The overall sponsor was LIME whose Country Manager, Mark Romney, had this to say: “LIME is involved in this because we feel that it is such a grand event in terms of the community spirit and, more so, this is a very young and talented group. I saw the passion that they have to pull off an event like this and I must say I am very happy with it because it really draws everybody out. It is something exciting and different at the same time. We are really proud to be part of it.”
