Ministry of Social Development Volunteer Register

The Ministry of Social Development announces the availability of its Volunteer Register. This register has been established as a mechanism by which persons interested in volunteering their services to assist in any Department under the Ministry’s portfolio can indicate their interest. The relevant Departments are Education, Social Development, Health Protection, Library Services, Probation, Sports, HM Prison and Youth and Culture.

The register can be accessed by visiting the Government of Anguilla’s website (gov.ai), clicking on the Ministry of Social Development’s link and scrolling to the bottom of the Ministry’s page where there is another link to the volunteer page which allows persons to register. Interested persons are required to enter their names, contact information, qualifications and experience and to indicate the areas in which they are interested in volunteering. Persons should however be aware that where necessary, they will be required to produce proof of their qualifications and background checks will be conducted, prior to their acceptance as volunteers in the Ministry’s Departments.

Volunteers are needed in the following areas which are not exhaustive—

(1) Organisation of community-based sporting activities
(2) Site supervision for probationers
(3) Conducting activities with residents of Zenaida Haven and inmates of Her Majesty’s Prison
(4) Provision of homework support or tutoring at the Blowing Point Youth Development Centre
(5) Literacy and Special Education Needs at primary schools
(6) Special projects, events and activities at the Department of Library Services – reading aloud, playing games, instruction in basic reading, outreach programmes, basic computer applications, shelf reading, book repairs, preparation of exhibits, storytelling, art and crafts, photography, videography, interviewing and transcription skills

Further information can be obtained by contacting any of the Ministry’s Departments.
The Ministry of Social Development appeals to persons to make use of the Register as it has been established in part as a response to claims by many persons that they are unsure how to make the appropriate persons aware that they are willing and available to volunteer their services. The Register also assists the Ministry in promoting volunteerism as a means fulfilling its vision that all residents of Anguilla will enjoy a high standard of living and universal access to quality social services.
