The 6th Of November a Day To Remember

The Supervisor of Elections, Mr Colville Petty, has repeated his call to all persons who are qualified to vote to make sure that their names are on the register of voters by going to the Central Electoral Office, which is open during regular business hours Monday through Friday, except on public holidays, and having them registered.

He has again advised that the last date for persons qualified to vote to get their names on the register of voters for 2009 is Friday 6th November 2009. And that if they want to be able to vote in the event that elections are held during the first quarter of 2010, then they must ensure that they register on or before Friday 6th November 2009.

Mr Petty is of the view that elections are just around the corner and advised those persons who are serious about voting in the 2010 elections to register their names on or before Friday 6th November 2009. He said that failure to meet that deadline may very well mean that some persons may not be able to vote until 2015.

The Supervisor of Elections said he was aware of concerns, in some quarters, over the inclusion of some names in the preliminary lists of voters and has reminded all aggrieved parties that the electoral laws provide mechanisms and procedures for dealing with all concerns; and that they must use those mechanisms and procedures to seek redress. In this regard, he mentioned that the final preliminary lists of voters for 2009 will be published on 11th December and that any registered voter has until 18th December 2009 to make objections, giving reasons, to the inclusion of any name or names in the lists of voters in the seven electoral districts.

All objections will be heard by the Electoral Registration Officer with the right of appeal to the Magistrate.

In an effort to encourage qualified persons wanting to vote in the event of elections being held in early 2010, Mr Petty’s has advised them that:

The sixth of November
A day to remember.
