Anguilla Development Board Business League Volleyball Tournament

As the 2009 Anguilla Development Volleyball League continues, the quality of matches also seem to improve. On Friday 25th September, Teachers played MICUH in what was a very competitive match. The engineers from MICUH brought out all their measuring devices as they were intent on preventing the Teachers from winning any sets. Under the leadership of Khalidah Banks and Perry Richardson, the Teachers fought valiantly but it was to no avail in the first set.

As the second set started it was evident MICUH was like a caged tiger, ready to pounce on anything heading in its direction. So it did with the high leaping Andrea ‘half man, half amazing” Samuel as he savagely slammed any ball in his area. Despite the reinforcements of Vanburn Brooks and Dedra Bell, the Teachers were defeated by a superior MICHU team.
In the second game there was a battle of the Connor brothers as Sports, led by Ian “Tucker” Connor, encountered Lester “Fishy” Connor and Sunset Homes. Sports were bolstered with Cleo Hamm as he passed with precision and covered any loose balls that were about to fall on the court. As the game progressed, Lester “Fishy Connor and Merrick ‘Crowned Prince of Volleyball’ Richardson worked hard to keep Sunset Homes in the game. However, Captain Ian Connor made it apparent he was not going to allow any resurgence. His team snuffed out any hope for Sunset Homes as Sports defeated them by winning the first two sets.

On Saturday 26th September, the games got even better. In the first game Police tried to inhibit the force known as Construction. Devoid of some of the regular members Randy ‘Jimmy Swagat’ Thompson Construction introduced some new members (to the Anguilla volleyball scene): Javelle Special Brooks and Tawana Edwards. Construction through some innovative substitutions won the first set 25; 11. Suddenly there was a surge of energy emanating from the long arm of the law. The Police fought with great valor as they blocked and scored several unanswered points. However, several unforced errors handed the game to Construction, via a score line of 21, 25.

The last game of the evening saw the ANGLEC Shockers entertain team Statistics. It was shocking to see what level of precision ANGLEC used to stun their opponents. Justus “Bumsee” Connor marshaled his troops and created confusion for his adversaries. Despite the encouragement of Janea Gumbs and Eva Hodge, team Statistics succumbed to the relentless pressure of the Shockers. Having lost the first set, team Statistics rallied to fight in the second set but the voltage was too high for them. It sapped their energy and determination to fight. The game culminated in a 25; 17; 25, 14 victory for ANGLEC.

The upcoming games for this Friday 2nd and 3rd October are:

Sports vs Statistics

MICUH vs. Construction

Teachers vs Police

Anglec vs Sunset Homes.
