Approximately 40 children were among the participants of the first Kids Connect Summer Camp coordinated by Latoya Scarbro, Twyla Richardson, Cherise Gumbs, Charla Connor and Jabari Harrigan, a group of long time school friends, dedicated to giving back to the community through the development of youth. Funds raised will purchase a PA system to benefit the Orealia Kelly Primary School and a cheque will be presented to the principal of the school in the upcoming week.

We share some of the participants’ remarks.” Our experience at Kids Connect!- Summer Camp was breathtaking!” exclaimed, Paige, Marlene, Xander, and Daiquan. “The camp showed a great success and we would like to thank the organizers” were the thoughts of Shakarie, Kdiah, Aneisha, and O’sanna. Participants, Max, Mckwani, Lavida, and Zahria remarked, “We think it is the best summer camp”. Parents, as well, thought the camp was excellent and first remarks were: “I hope you all plan to have this next year because the children can’t stop talking about their experiences”. Another parent remarked that, based on their child’s discussions, “each day seemed to have been better than the day before” and yet another parent exclaimed, “This was the first camp my child woke up each day excited to go to”.

Children were engaged in various activities such as fashion, jewelry making, dance, sports, and kitemaking; educational sessions, some of which included culture, history, the world map, tourism, etiquette, nutrition & caring for the body, caring for the beaches, among others, and a series of field trips that engaged the participants in the manufacturing of goods, enriching their knowledge of the island’s history and culture, and an exciting “Hello Tourist afternoon”, where the participants received the tourist experience.
