The cheque was handed over by Fairplay Insurance Services representative Quincy Gumbs Jnr. and NAGICO Anguilla’s Underwriter/ Administrator, Sidson Sorton at the NAGICO office in The Valley. On hand to receive the cheque on behalf of the AANA were Rosmond Henderson, Treasurer, and Lisa James, Netball Coordinator.
Marketing Manager, Jasmine Payne explained the rationale for the sponsorship. She said, “NAGICO has made an overall commitment to contribute to the development of sports in the islands in which it operates. We decided to assist the AANA because of the work they are doing with the youth and the fact that they are making great strides in the development of netball on the island. Any investment in training youth in a sporting discipline, ensures the longevity of the sport. We would also like to congratulate them on taking the initiative to raise funds on their own. This is very commendable.”
Both Ms. Henderson and Ms James were appreciative of the donation. Ms. Henderson said, “This is a big help since we do not have to raise funds to buy the girls’ uniforms.” Ms James added that they have raised some funds for other needs but the uniforms were a basic need and they would not be able to compete without them.
Ms. James also noted that the young players were very committed to the game. She said, “They have been training four days a week for two hours each day. The team is very excited to be participating. This is the first time a team from Anguilla will be competing in the Regional Under 13 Netball Competition.
