Masked Men and Woman Terrorized Minimart at Gunpoint
S.R. of Christine’s Minimart in Long Bay reported to Police Headquarters that at about 9 pm on Sunday July 26 two masked men entered the store. One carried a gun. The two took cash and fled the scene in a motor car driven by a female.
Inspector Emris Rogers of the Criminal Investigation Department stated that Police responded to the report and carried out an investigation that resulted in the arrest of Juan Carlos Cabrera, Vernon Webster Jr. and Jennifer Mussington, all of South Hill, on suspicion of robbery. Police later charged the three with robbery.
Rogers said that, based on the arrests made, warrants were executed and an automatic weapon was recovered. Police subsequently charged Vernon Webster Jr. with being in possession of a firearm and ammunition. Rogers revealed that, to his knowledge, the firearm was “what persons refer to as a machine gun.”
On Tuesday July 28, Police took Cabrera, Webster and Mussington before the Magistrate. Cabrera was remanded to prison until August 4 when the court will hear his case. Webster was granted bail of EC$150,000 with two sureties but was remanded to prison pending the requirements of his bail. Rogers said Webster was awaiting the appearance of two persons who would be willing to “be responsible for assuring his bail.” Mussington was granted bail in the sum of EC$75,000 with two sureties to appear on September 25. All three are believed to be in their early twenties.
Scissors Man Gets Jail Time
On Monday July 27, Busiso Benjamin of North Side appeared before the Magistrate Court on a charge of being armed with an offensive weapon. According to Inspector Rogers, he pleaded guilty to carrying a scissors and was sentenced to 45 days in prison.
Mr. Rogers revealed that Benjamin was found carrying the weapon when a search was made outside the carnival village of a group of men who were “hanging around the gate.”
Rogers said the Drugs and Firearms Task Force was patrolling the area and suspected that the men were present to “make trouble.”
