Timarah Hodge Graduates From UVI


The parents of Timarah Hodge, Timothy and Josette Hodge of Island Harbour, Anguilla have announced with pride her graduation from the University of the Virgin Islands (U.V.I.), St. Thomas Campus. She graduated on Monday 18th May, 2009 with a B.Sc. degree (Cum Laude) in Biology.

Timarah, one of the 229 members of the “Unprecedented, Victorious, Invincible“ Graduating Class of 2009, entered U.V.I. in August 2006 after completing Sixth Form at the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School here. She was among the first cohort of recipients of the Associates Degree from the Caribbean Examinations Council (C.X.C.) that year, having earlier obtained passes in eleven CXC subjects and completed seven C.A.P.E. units.
During her studies at U.V.I., Timarah was consistently on the Dean’s List and was a member of the Golden Key Honour Society, an academic honour society which recognizes and encourages scholastic achievement and excellence among college and university students from all academic disciplines. She was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha (AKA), the first Greek-lettered sorority established and incorporated by African American college women, and represented the Rho Omicron Chapter of the Sorority at its centennial celebration in Washington, D.C. in July 2008. She was also a member of Phi Beta Lambda (FBLA – Future Business Leaders of America), and Rotaract. At U.V.I. she conducted research on the bioactive metabolites found in yellow Breadfruit leaves and isolated two known compounds, Morusin and Cudraflavone C. She presented her findings at various research symposia including the Eastern Caribbean Research Symposium and the Annual Biomedical Research Symposium for Minority Students in Orlando, Florida, in November 2008.

Between semesters at U.V.I., Timarah volunteered at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Anguilla, as she has done since her high school days in the Summer Job Placement Programme. She expects to attend Medical School commencing in August 2009 studying for the MBBS degree at the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine Campus, Trinidad, and plans to return to Anguilla to practice upon completion of her studies. Timarah’s graduation ceremony was attended by her parents, her two grandmothers Olive Hodge and Carmen Hall, her sisters and other members of her family and friends. The University of the Virgin Islands is also the Alma Mater of Timarah’s father, Timothy Hodge, who completed a B.A. in Business Administration (Finance) there in 1992. The Anguillian joins with the proud Hodge family in congratulating Timarah on her achievements and wishes her well in all her future endeavours.
