The effort also saw 17 students from the Workshop Inactive Support Education (WISE) Programme going through to pass the training.

Thursday’s Certificate Presentation Ceremony began at 1:00pm at the Soroptomist Centre with a welcome by Youth and Peer Education Subcommittee Head and Youth Program Coordinator Mr. Trevor Queeley. Mr. Queeley said this is the second set of young people to be trained in the program, bringing to total in this age group to 33.

The programme also included brief remarks by dignitaries from the Ministry of Social Development and the Governor’s Office. The vote of thanks was given by Red Cross First Aid Training Programme Coordinator and First Aid Subcommittee Head Ms. Jodi-Anne Dunn.

President of the Anguilla Red Cross Mr. Ash Hodge said the First Aid training is part of the organization’s ongoing initiative throughout the community to increase the capability of persons “in the home, at the office or anywhere to meet the immediate needs of those involved in an emergency situation.” He said this is a perennial effort by Red Cross which will continue well into the future. Mr. Hodge added that the youngsters are now part of an elite group of Anguillians and residents who possess knowledge of first step practices to be performed during an accident or an emergency.

Training for the students was facilitated by Queeley and Health and Community Subcommittee Head Nurse Suzan Harrigan.
