FirstCaribbean Seeks Nomination For Unsung Hero

FirstCaribbean International Bank is again providing an opportunity for members of the public to be part of the nomination process as it seeks another Unsung Hero.

This is the fifth year that Anguilla is participating in the programme which was launched in 2003, and which represents one of the most unique and useful community support initiatives in the Caribbean today.

Through Unsung Heroes, FirstCaribbean is able to showcase the extraordinary work that is done by ordinary men and women who devote their lives to community service.

Persons who are eligible for this award include those who are dedicated beyond the ordinary toward social improvement, are willing to have his/her cause profiled in the local and regional media, does not have a high profile, is apolitical and does not seek to directly promote any religious movement. Registered charities, groups of persons and established service clubs are not eligible.

Anyone can nominate an Unsung Hero except themselves, including groups, who must indicate the name of a primary contact whom FirstCaribbean may contact for more details. Prior nominations that were previously unsuccessful may be resubmitted.

Nominations close on July 6th, and all forms will be compiled and considered by a local judging panel. The panel includes bank representatives, well-respected community leaders and a local unsung hero’s coordinator selected by the bank.

The Local Unsung Hero receives US$6,000.00 and is eligible, if selected as the regional winner, to an additional US$7,500. It should be noted that all monetary awards must be given directly to the unsung hero’s cause.

The regional judging panel selects three regional Unsung Heroes from the winners of each country – a winner, a first runner up and second runner up, based on the details submitted on their community service efforts. A special commendation may be awarded in some circumstances.

Nomination Forms can be collected at the local branch of FirstCaribbean, and are also available on our website, www.firstcaribbean.com.>About US>First in the Community>Unsung Heroes. The information provided should include a brief description of the nominees community work, the time the person (s) have been serving the community and in more than 200 words why the individual should be a FirstCaribbean Unsung Hero.

For additional information regarding the programme, you may contact our local Coordinator Gretta Morancie at 497 2301.
