Minister of Finance, Victor Banks, has set mid-July as the date by which he thinks it will be possible to provide a preliminary report on the expansion of Wallblake Airport to Opposition Member, Edison Baird, who has made the request for about the third time.

His latest request for the information was made when the Anguilla House of Assembly met on Thursday, March 19.

“The last time I was in this Honourable House I inquired from the Member for Valley South, the Minister of Finance, as to when I would get the information because I need it,” Mr. Baird told the Speaker, David Carty. “He said that come today he would indicate when he would be putting that information to the House.”

Replying, Mr. Banks stated he was endeavouring to provide some information to the Member for Road North, bearing in mind that the process of the airport expansion was not completed. “I have discussed [it] with the various agencies, in particular the Ministry of Works and the Ministry of Lands. I think the member should be aware that the Ministry of Economic Development and Finance would only have dealt with the financing aspect of the project. I want to indicate to him that I have been assured …by the various agencies that preliminary information will be available by mid-July,” he told the Speaker.

Mr. Banks explained that preliminary information would only be available because “up to that point the entire airport construction project would not have been completed in terms of response to the need for re-allocation and so on and so forth.”
