CuisinArt Plans More Art Exhibitions |
| Publishing date: 13.01.2003 11:09 |
CuisinArt Resort and Spa has mounted its first art exhibition for the year and is hoping to have many more by various artists during 2003. The resort opened this season with a new boutique set up in the area where the art gallery was originally located. The gallery has now been moved to a partly open area in the vicinity of the hydroponic farm and in a section of the lush gardens.

General Manager, Rabin Ortiz, said the new location was “more peaceful, in better contact with nature in the open air and will enhance the exhibitions.”
The current exhibiting artist is 26-year-old Justyna Miklasiewicz of Poland. It is her second exhibition at CuisinArt, the first having been held last year. The exhibition, which opened on January 4, includes some art work which relates to Anguilla. Among the paintings is the conch shell, around which are scenes of Anguillian life and culture from a tourism perspective.
Over twenty of her paintings were done during her stay in Anguilla. “I enjoy working in the climate of Anguilla and among the beautiful plants and flowers. Thanks to CuinsinArt and to Mr. Rabin because I have no problems with my work which I have done within the landscape [of the hotel],” she commented.
Speaking about the concept of her art, she said it was mainly figurative and based on a constant research of the spirituality of things. “The artist does not focus on the definition of details , but she breaks up the matter, bringing out with skillful use of light, the rarefaction through inner brightness…The air becomes matter along with the depicted objects,” a pamphlet about her work stated.
She studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Poland and was later awarded a scholarship which enabled her to undertake further studies in Italy. She will be staging an exhibition in New York during this year to introduce her work to the American market.
General Manager of the hotel, Rabin Ortiz, praised the work of the young artist who has a passion for orange and red colours. He said she would be brought back to the island later and that during the course of the year there would be exhibitions by various other artists. “Through art, we are making the second part of our name more visible around the island,” he stated “and we have been linked directly with art around the world.” In addition to the work by international artists, there will be exhibitions of Caribbean art as well as time progresses.
The opening of the exhibition was attended by a number of invited guests from the hotel and the Anguillian community.
