The Rt. Rev. Errol Brooks

On January 26 and 27, the leading Anguillian and regional Clergyman, who is also Bishop of the Diocese of the Northeastern Caribbean and Aruba, will be among the presiding Bishops of Canada, the United States and Cuba at a meeting in Miami. The Anglican Church in Cuba functions under the Province of the West Indies. Various matters relating to the life of the Church, including the state of its mission in Cuba, are on the agenda for discussion.
From Miami, Acting Archbishop Brooks will travel to Egypt for a meeting of Primates in the Mediterranean City of Alexandria. The term, Primates, is used for Archbishops, Bishops and other such high-ranking Clergymen in the Anglican Communion.
The meeting, from January 31 to February 6, will be under the chairmanship of the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Reverend Dr. Rowan Williams. The matters for discussion will include the Church’s Covenant Agreement and other issues. Some of the challenging and divisive issues facing the Church include the ordination of women, same sex relationships and Scriptural interpretations.
Bishop Brooks assumed the duties of Acting Archbishop of the West Indies on January 1, this year, following the retirement of Archbishop Drexel Gomez on December 31, 2008. The assumption of this post is not only a personal honour for the Rt. Rev. Brooks, but one for Anguilla in general. Through him it gives little Anguilla a significant opportunity to participate in some of the highest religious forums in the world.
