“These spacious facilities are to be used for the benefit of all, especially Anguillians”, the Chief Minister said. He alluded to the current financial downturn in the world and said, “there were lots of challenges ahead for the island.”

Labour Commissioner, Russel Reid, said he was pleased with the support given to the Labour Department by the Chief Minister’s Office, but urged Ministry officials to be better positioned to hear the concerns of all persons who will use the facilities.

“We can learn from each other to achieve the same goals,” Mr Reid said.

Acting Chief Immigration Officer, Brenda Proctor, said she was happy the department is now located in better working conditions. “The staff is now more motivated and the public more comfortable,” she added.

The reason for bringing the two departments under one roof is to ensure that there is seamless service to residents and visitors to Anguilla with regard to labour and immigration matters.

The two departments complement each other with regard to the issuance of work permits and other work related documents. As such, linking them physically and electronically will provide efficient and effective service to Anguilla.

Additionally, staff from the Inland Revenue Department will be at the new facility to ensure that persons do not have to leave the compound in order to complete the payment for work permits, extension of stay, resident stamps, travel documents and belonger status applications.
