Claims By Man In Anguilla Found To Be False

Police in Anguilla now know that the information given to them by a suspicious man found at Little Harbour, on October 28, on the island’s south coast bordering French St. Martin, is entirely false.

The man, who has no travel documents in his possession, gave his name to the police as “David Simmons” and said he was born in Holland. But officers in the Criminal Investigation Department, who were in contact with their counterparts in Guadeloupe, were told that his real name is David Emmatuel Moisa and that in fact he was born in Basseterre, Guadeloupe, on March 12, 1979 and not on December 12, 1978; and that he was a French national and not a Dutch citizen as he claimed. The Guadeloupe police were assisted by Interpol in Paris, France.

It was also found that he made a false claim about having a girl friend in The Valley and that he did not come to Anguilla on a small aircraft from St.Maarten but on a stolen jet ski instead.

The man’s identity became known when a reader of the Daily Herald in St.Maarten saw his photograph and the story published in that newspaper. The informer subsequently came to Anguilla with documents showing that the jet-ski which the Anguilla police found at Little Harbour was stolen from him.

Moisa is still being held by police in Anguilla who have informed their counterparts in Guadeloupe of his detention here. Possible charges against him may be illegal entry into Anguilla and deception.

Moisa’s entire upper body is covered with tattoos with such phrases as “Bad Boy for Life,” “My Dog Dead” and “Ghetto”, all indicating the type of misdirected person he is believed to be.
