The second annual Central Christian School Charity Golf Tournament commenced on time Saturday, April 26 at the Temenos Golf Club. One hundred Golfers began to tee off at 9:30 a.m. and finished around 2:00 pm. As seen in many articles leading up to the event, the purpose of the tournament was to raise funds for the construction of a new primary school that will be located in The Quarter. Last year’s event raised US $57,000 and this year much money was raised.

The Champions
|
An anonymous donor gave US $10,000 and Sir Allen Stanford committed to pledge an amount although the dollar figure was not provided. Sir Allen was scheduled to be at the tournament, and be the keynote speaker at the National Sports Awards, but unfortunately he was not able to get back to Anguilla in time due to business in London. Although the final amount of money raised was not available, it certainly has surpassed last year’s amount thus shining more light on a bright future ahead for the school.

Golfers, sponsors and organizers enjoyed a great day of camaraderie and fellowship while the children in attendance had loads of fun hitting numerous balls on the golf range. Hale Kelly, Director of Golf, and Bernie Morgan, Assistant Golf pro, assisted the children as much as possible in learning the sport. The Temenos Golf staff ran a first rate event which was extremely well organized. In the end, first place went to the team of Rick and Mary Van Horne, Natalie Le Senechal and Neal Kahn. Second place was Jay Conway, Demitri Cassini, Mike Pearson and David Hutson. Third place went to Emmanuel Garcia, Erwan Le Floch, Arnaud Wojcik and Fred Wojcik. The prize for the most honest team was given to Yannick Casmajou, Anne Marie Bouille, Jean Lugger and Henri Barnier. There was also a longest drive competition in which Jay Conway and Demitri Cassini were given the prize.
