Committee Chairman, Jerome Roberts, told the Principal, Tracelyn Hamilton, that the decision had been taken to assist both the Island Harbour School and the Morris Vanterpool School at East End as far as possible from the proceeds of the festival.

He said that the committee’s gift to the Island Harbour School was in response to the need expressed by that school and was the first of the presentations. A white board, used as a teaching aid and in keeping with technology today, was requested by Morris Vanterpool School at East End and was being favourably considered.

Roberts noted that a number of the planned events of December 2007 festival were rained out with the consequence that the full anticipated revenue was not realised. He said that from the EC$10,000 raised, the committee had undertaken to donate US$1200 towards the purchase of the equipment for the Island Harbour School. He was pleased to see that the multi-faceted machine was already in use at the Principal’s Office.

He appealed to the general public to enter a partnership with schools to help meet their needs and offered his best wishes to the staff and students at Island Harbour as they used the educational tool in the process of their work.

Replying, Mrs. Hamilton accepted the gift and thanked the Festival De Noel Committee and members of the public who supported the activities thus assisting in raising the money to purchase the equipment for her school. She added that the fax component of the machine was also a very timely and well-needed facility. She acknowledged that the Education Department had already supplied the school with a small copier for its resource room for teachers and that with the two machines the needs of the school would be well served.

“Thank you for thinking about Island Harbour Primary and best wishes to you in your future endeavours,” Mrs. Hamilton told Mr. Roberts. The others at the presentation ceremony were Festival De Noel Committee member Avelene Hodge-Carty and students Phelicia Harrigan and Adrian Webster.
