| Publishing date: 25.04.2008 10:57 |
In celebrating First Caribbean International Bank’s five year anniversary, Marie Rey announced on Wednesday April 16, that a donation in the amount of USD $10,000 would be made towards an IT Centre in the Public Library. The Chief Minister of Anguilla, the Honourable Mr. Osbourne Fleming, as well as the Minster of Social Development, the Honourable Evans Rogers, sat alongside Mrs. Rey at the head table and were much appreciative of the gift. The following is an excerpt of Mrs. Rey’s speech:

“In October 2007, we celebrated our fifth anniversary, and today, FirstCaribbean is honoured to celebrate what is a significant milestone in our Bank’s history. When we began operating in 2003, we made a commitment to be a true Caribbean Bank that would not only become the No. 1 financial services institution in the region but that would also become No.1 when it comes to community involvement. To that end, we formed the FirstCaribbean International Comtrust Foundation - the charitable entity of our Bank designed to help us define and manage our commitment to social responsibility in each of our 17 countries.
“Through the Foundation, our Bank continues to enrich communities all across the region through its many programmes, and inspires our team of over 3,000 employees in the Caribbean to play their part, through volunteerism, in making a difference in their respective communities. Today, we are here as true community partners - continuing the work we started five years ago. We are excited about demonstrating once again, in the most tangible way we can, our commitment to the growth of our community. For us, FifthGift is a true celebration. We’re delighted that we reached our fifth anniversary but we’re even more ecstatic about being able to share our success with the people of Anguilla.
“In Anguilla, we had a number of options open to us where we felt that we could do something that would really make a difference in this community. After speaking to the Chief Minister about our plans, it wasn’t hard deciding to make this Internet kiosk available, which we hope will benefit the community at large. Ladies and Gentlemen, it is a privilege and a pleasure to present this gift to the people of Anguilla. On behalf of FirstCaribbean, we say thank you for allowing us to be your partners, and for the support you have shown us over the past five years.”
Mr. Fleming mentioned to the public that this is the type of commitment we want from all institutions coming to operate in Anguilla. The sense of giving back to community is paramount and I am glad to see FirstCaribbean investing in Anguilla. It was mentioned also that the government would cover the cost of any additional funds needed to complete the project.
