Social Security Board Is Five Star Sponsor For Sports Awards


Director of Sports, Alkins Rogers announced that the Sports Awards Ceremony for 2007 will take place on Saturday April 26 at Campus B Auditorium. It is an opportunity to recognize those who have raised the profile of sports in Anguilla and as such Rogers says he is pleased that the Awards ceremony will once again take place. He thanked Social Security for supporting the event again and donating US$2,000.00.

Maglan Richardson, Assistant Director Human Resource and Corporate Services for the Social Security Board, congratulated the committee on organizing the event that has been dormant for the past two years and said she is happy to see it back on the calendar. She noted that the awards ceremony is a means of encouraging young sports persons and recognizing the older and former ones. She congratulated the awardees for the category of Former Sports Personalities that were announced by Susan Richardson of Social Security and members of the Stanford 20/20 cricket team.

The awardees are Lawrence Carty, who represented Anguilla on the national football and cricket teams, Leslie Richardson who was involved in cricket, football and volleyball, Lindy Davis, from the national cricket team, and Joyce Kentish who represented Anguilla in netball. Also being awarded are Alburtus Richardson, formerly a national cricket player, Arnette Lake, national softball team, Lanvil Harrigan, who was on the national cricket team and played for the West Indies B team, Wycliffe Richardson, a former executive member of the Anguilla Cricket and Football associations, Clarence Fleming Rogers, formerly on the national cricket team, Benson Richardson who represented the Blue Carib in the local league, and David Kenworthy, a former executive member of the Anguilla Cricket Association and the Leeward Islands Cricket Association.

Rogers said that during the next three weeks announcements will be made for nominations for the other categories including youth sportsman/sportswoman, senior sportsman/woman, and volunteers and special awards.
