One of the persons was arrested for taking a vehicle without the consent of the owner; three males were arrested for the possession and importation of cannabis. Another person was placed under arrest for possession of the drug. The other arrest was for causing death by dangerous driving.
There were two burglary reports at North Side and East End. Among the stolen articles were two laptop computers, associated equipment and a hand chain. Three thefts were reported in Stoney Ground, The Valley and South Valley. The items stolen included US$390, EC$300 and a cellular phone. Two of the thefts were solved by the police.
There was one report of criminal damage to glass blocks.
Yearwood said there was an increase of vehicular accidents. The 16 accidents recorded during the week were two of a serious nature, one fatal and 13 minor ones.
Deputy Commissioner Illidge Richardson expressed dismay over the number of accidents on the roads and appealed to motorists to obey the speed limits and to respect the rights and safety of other road users.
Inspector Paul Sinclair reported that on Wednesday, February 20 Customs officials assisted by the Police Force including the Drugs and Firearms Task Force arrested and charged three men for possession of cannabis and importation of a controlled drug. The men involved were crew members of a locally-owned charter boat. The arrest occurred at the Blowing Point Ferry Terminal.
The seized cannabis, about ten pounds, was taken into police custody. Those arrested were E. H. of West End, S. R. of Swing High and S. R. of Blowing Point. They appeared before the Magistrate’s Court on February 22 and were granted bail in the sum of EC$40,000 to reappear at the Court on May 5. The boat that was seized was released by Customs.
On Friday, February 22, members of the Drug and Firearms Task Force arrested S. W. of Stoney Ground for possession of cannabis weighing about 2.8 grams. He was granted bail in the sum of EC$2,000 to appear before the Magistrate on March 20.
Superintendent Rudolph Proctor was pleased to report that there had been a reduction of crime on the island over the past two weeks. He was also grateful that a number of people were now coming forward to provide information to the police which was of much help in solving some of the cases. He added that in the meantime there were continuing investigations into a number of robberies and murders with a view to bringing the offenders to justice.
