NEW ROAD MAPS HANDED OVER

Five thousand road maps produced for the Anguilla Government, by Calabash Skyview of Barbados, which is represented on the island by Jessica Bensley, were handed over to the Department of Infrastructure on Thursday.

According to the Roads Engineer, Bancroft Battick, these are to enable members of the local population to familiarise themselves with the new road names. Some of them will be placed at key locations on the island for free distribution and a larger number will be given to school children as an effective means to spread the information. The maps were produced at a cost of US$4,500. In addition 50,000 maps have been produced for distribution by the Tourism Board. These will be produced annually and paid for by the various properties on the island.

The new maps follow the naming of roads and the erection of much-needed directional signs throughout the island. A special feature of the large directional signs is that the show the mileage from one location to another. These signs will be of great help to visitors who have been looking forward to this type of information for a long time.

The signs, which illuminate at night, were supplied by Ron Webster of Island Harbour at a cost of about EC$38,000.
