CELEBRATING MALLIOUHANA SPA

Minister: “ I Never Saw The Like”

The newest addition to Malliouhana Hotel at Meads Bay in Anguilla, a five-million US-dollar state-of the-art luxury spa, was celebrated on Tuesday evening with a reception attended by a large number of invited guests from the public and private sectors. The guests were received by owner of the property, Leon Roydon and General Manager Nigel Roydon, his son.

The main tour leader was Director of Spa Services, Tanya Clark. The guests were taken on guided tours of the attractive and well-laid out treatment rooms and up the elevator to the luxurious day suites which have been specially designed for ultimate privacy and repose.

Everywhere among the touring parties were expressions of admiration for the facility, which also includes a very large fitness centre, and commendation for the Roydons.

The Anguillian asked the island’s Minister of Finance and Economic Development for a comment on the facility.

“As usual Malliouhana has been a centre for excellence in the hospitality industry and whenever something is done it is done at the top level. I believe this spa is a further demonstration of the commitment the management and ownership of Malliouhana have to the upper end of the market that Anguilla is focusing on.

“I think everybody who comes to Malliouhana will recognise that Malliouhana continues to enhance its product and its services. It is a spa that is second to nothing that I have seen. I am quite sure there are many people who have seen spas around the world…but I have never seen a spa of the kind of excellence and the kind of service that is being offered at this one.

“I believe that Anguilla is continuing along the path of developing excellence in tourism and I wish to congratulate Mr. Leon Roydon for his effort. He has been here with us from the very beginning. It’s over 20 years he has been working with the Government of Anguilla as a partner and he continues to demonstrate the level of partnership that is required to sustain upper market tourism in Anguilla.”

Mr. Roydon is delighted that he and his family have been able to make a worthwhile contribution to Anguilla’s development. “I appreciate particularly that the people would come here and see what we’ve spent nearly two years producing, something new for the island,” he commented. “I think in the fullness of time there will probably be several spas, but I always wanted to think that we would be the first spa. We were the first luxury hotel and I would like to feel we were the first spa.

“This evening I appreciated everyone coming. I hope all will be well and that the island will continue its prosperity.”

Asked how he felt with task of building the spa completed, Mr. Roydon replied light-heartedly: “With the completion of the project there is certainly a feeling of peace; and everyone in the hotel will tell you that I am much calmer now than I was a few weeks ago.”

His son, Nigel, commented: “My job was to get the rest of the hotel running while he concentrated on building this [the spa]. He put an awful lot of feeling and heart into building it. I feel that’s why he made that comment because there were times he wasn’t sure it was ever going to be completed. To get it completed and opened was a great relief and achievement for him…. We have always supported each other for a long time now. I have been here for 17 years and we have been working together for a long time.

“We are very pleased that the people here have made the effort to come and see it.”

The guests were sumptuously entertained with champagne and hors d’oeuvres in the lovely setting of the spa overlooking Meads Bay.
