The Honourable Minister of Social Development Evans Mcniel Rogers today commended Darren Gumbs, an Anguillian, for his outstanding accomplishments in Bodybuilding. Mr. Rogers met Mr. Gumbs and his United States Sponsor in the VIP Lounge at the Wallblake Airport on their arrival today.

Mr. Rogers in his comments said that this is undeniable proof that discipline, hard-work, support and dedication make the difference in what our youths can do with their lives regardless of their aspirations or fields of interest. The Minister of Sports further went on to highlight the attributes the US sponsor Mr. Joe Lobell said drew him to Darren and made him standout in the crowd which were his faith, commitment to family, integrity and talent.

Alkin Rogers Sport Director, Rollins Richardson Sport Department, Othlyn Vanterpool Special Assistant Sports, Mr. and Mrs. Derrick Gumbs were present as were a number of other supporters to witness Darren’s return home. Government is committed to the active promotion of our youth and Mr. Rogers commented on the various challenges and the need to further engage the youth in more productive activities. The US Sponsor Joe Lobell in his remarks pointed out the fact that Darren’s most recent victory in the Junior World Bodybuilding Champions was testimony that coming from a population of 13000 is not a justifiable limitation. Government is committed towards ensuring as Darren has proven that Anguilla not only showcases its talent in competitions on the world’s stage but be triumphant.
