Mom-Gats Turns 79 |
| Publishing date: 22.02.2008 09:11 |
Mrs. Louisa Agatha Richardson of North Hill, affectionately known to many as Mom-Gath, turned 79 years of age last Monday, February 11th. In a hearty mode of celebration held at the No-Walls Church of Hope, where Mom-Gat is an ardent member, many of her fellow-members were pleased to help her mark the special event on Monday night, as they participated in a heartwarming service of thanksgiving and contributed towards what turned out to be a memorable sumptuous meal.

On hand to share the occasion with Mom-Gat were members of her family including her daughter, Delores, her grand-daughter Sodie, her brother Charles and his wife, Ilene, as well as several of her North Hill neighbours and friends.
In commenting on the note-worthy milestone, Pastor James Harrigan expressed that while all of us observe our birthdays, and though many of us do so without notable celebration, it is a good thing to keep in accord with God’s word which instructs us to bestow honour to whom honour is due. “This,” he said, “was the reason why the church found it appropriate to take the opportunity in paying such loving respect to this gracious lady.”

Pastor Harrigan commended Mom-Gat as one faithful woman who loves people as she loves the Lord. He made mention of Rick Warren’s book, The Purpose Driven Life, which places emphasis on the fact that “one’s earthly life determines their eternal destiny.” He noted that since Mom-Gat is well aware of this, she places high regard on the purpose of her life, which is to be benevolent to her fellow-man, thus doing her portion of service to God.

Mom-Gat is a very popular personality in her community. She is generally known for her kindness to her neighbours, but she is most prominently known to accommodate vying political contestants of her constituency, during election time, by making the grounds of her little “counter shop” available as a suitable site for campaign meetings.
Befittingly, the incumbent representative of the Road North constituency, the Hon. Edison Baird, conveyed special congratulatory greetings to Mom-Gat, through Pastor Harrigan.
The Anguillian joins in extending belated birthday greetings to Mom-Gat, and hope that her future affords her many more years of health and happiness.
