2008 Associate Degree Graduates in Anguilla (Absent: Amethyst Davis who is furthering her studies abroad)

The statistics, released by the Ministry of Education, show that 13 out of 19 Sixth Form students received Associate Degrees from the Caribbean Examinations Council, (CXC).
Three of the successful students did their Associate Degrees in General Studies. They are Amethyst Davis, Nashara Webster and Carl Whyte. Another three students, Jasentha Crawford, Tirichmir Gumbs and Rochelle Rogers did theirs in Humanities. Seven others hold their Associate Degrees in Business Studies. They are Neala Charlery, Adrienna Connor, Tesia Harrigan, Dennica Lake, Jaynelle Lake, Keivelle Lake and Shermel Richardson.
In addition to their Associate Degrees, these 13 students, along with two others, Josef Hughes-Caines and Bianca Levons, (a total of 15) received Diplomas under the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE).
Seven Units, selected in accordance with specifications, must be completed for the award of each Associate Degree. Candidates may, however, opt to take additional (extra) Units if they so desire. A CAPE diploma is awarded for the successful completion of a programme of at least six units including Caribbean Studies.
Anguilla had its first recipients of Associate Degrees in 2006. The 10 successful students then were Monifa Fahie and Kamal Harding-Hodge (Natural Sciences); Shameca Hodge and Nakishma Rogers (Humanities); Careme Carty and Arniva Richardson (Business Studies); Timarah Hodge, Nashaine Johnson, Kyle Kentish and Kondah Hazell (General Studies).
Those 10 students also joined four other students, Kieran Kentish, Kenniva Brooks, Jamil Harrigan and Georgia Matthew in receiving diplomas.
19 Students Qualify For Business Certificates
Among the successful students in 2007 were 19 who qualified for the Certificates in Business Studies.
These students are Olufunmike Banks-Devonish, Kareem Bradley, Taveli Brooks, Alvaro Connor, Ronsford Connor, Valmaree Croft, Callin Freeman, Clemaude Gumbs, Quinson Gumbs, Callyn Harrigan, Devin Hodge, Elidad Jacobs-Baez, Karisa Lake, Lorne Lawrence, Patriese Richards, Shellya Rogers, Omar Tomlinson, Ojeda Vanterpool and Natasha Walker.
The first Business Studies Certificates were awarded in 2004. There were 3 awardees in 2004, 13 in 2005 and 10 in 2006. Last year (2007) saw the largest increase in the number of students attaining this certificate.
The Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate in Business Studies is based on a minimum of five subjects including English A (General) or English A (Basic) and Mathematics; at least two subjects selected from Electronic Document Preparation and Management, Office Administration, Principles of Accounts and Principles of Business; and no more than one subject selected from Economics, Information Technology, Spanish or French.
