The conference was held at the Conference Centre at the Royale Caribbean Resort owned by the Gumbs’ family.

The Baptists in Trinidad, who are affiliated with the Central Baptist and First Baptist Churches, made their comments at Harvest Baptist Church where they were having a series of special meetings.

“Anguilla is a nice, quiet place and I was very pleased with the island and how easy it is to get around,” said one of the Harvest Church leaders.

“I love Anguilla and I couldn’t wait to see it,” commented Claudette Pustam, Sales Representative of the 75-year-old Colonial Life Insurance Company known all over the world. “I just love the people – they are very friendly. I love how peaceful and lay back the island is and with no traffic like in Trinidad. It is just awesome. I have been back and forth to Anguilla assisting with one of the local banks’ retiring pension schemes and to make my insurance company have a presence on the island.”

One of the Trinidadian pastors, Don Pustam, said: “Anguilla is a beautiful island. We know that God is in that place because of the leadership and the people were very hospitable. We being West Indians they received us with love and compassion.

“It was a tremendous blessing to see that Quincy Gumbs, a born again believer, could be so kind to host such a conference; and we pray that that the hand of God will be on his resort and will bless him tremendously.”

Pastor Cyril Gumbs, recalling his love for his homeland, stated: “I was so proud to have been in Anguilla and to see such a facility owned by an Anguillian who made that available to the conference. I think it was super. I was really impressed by Mr. Quincy Gumbs. As Chairman of the Conference, I want to express our thanks to him.”

Pastor Gumbs, who has being serving in Arima, Trinidad, for the past 35 years, continued: “I think the progress of the island is very good. However, I would like to encourage Anguillians to be cautious and that they should not do things too rapidly, and that we retain some of the jobs for our local people. I am concerned about that.”
