President of the Club, Jerome Roberts, said that in partnering with such organisations it was determined that the donations were a worthwhile venture. “The objective of the Optimist Club of Anguilla is to reach the young people as much as possible,” Roberts stated. “We know that in partnering with the Anguilla Community Action Network which is dealing with HIV/AIDS that it is a very sensitive issue. The money is to help the organisation to continue the work it has been doing.”
The cheque was presented to Alma Hughes who accepted it on behalf of the organisation.

The other cheque was presented by Chief Committee Chairperson with the Optimist Club, Emma Ferguson, to Aids Coordinator, Patricia Beard. “It is a minor contribution but we look forward to great days ahead and later contributions later on,” Ms Ferguson said.

Replying, Mrs. Beard thanked the Optimist Club on behalf of the National Aids Programme and the people of Anguilla. “No matter how small the donation may be, it can help with our programme because we are doing a national effort which not only embodies young people but all sectors of the community,” Mrs. Beard stated.
