PA SYSTEM FOR BLOWING POINT PORT

A public address system is to be installed at the Blowing Point Passenger Terminal as part of general improvements to one of the island’s gateways for tourists. The equipment was handed over to Port Manager, Dale Rogers, by Director of Tourism, Amelia Vanterpool-Kubisch on Tuesday November 5.
In making the presentation, on behalf of the Tourist Board, she said the equipment was provided to enhance the ferry terminal for Anguillians and visitors. She was grateful to Mr. Rogers for his work and to members of the Board who had contributed their monthly stipend towards the purchase of the equipment.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Communications, Kenn Banks, said Government was very pleased with the new spirit of cooperation which was being displayed in Anguilla, especially at Blowing Point at present. He was grateful to the members of the Tourist Board and Benjamine’s Group of Companies for contributing to the purchasing of the public address system.

He said it would be used at the port to announce the departures and arrivals of ferryboats and to make other public announcements. He stated it would add greatly to the environment of the port where various improvements had been taking place over the past months. He took the opportunity to compliment the boat owners who had agreed to remove some of the obstructions in the harbour.

Chairman of the Tourist Board, John Benjamin, was grateful to the Port Manager, boat owners, the Blowing Point and Cul-de-Sac communities for assisting with the enhancement and development of the port. “It is one of our main ports of entry and it says a lot about Anguilla. The first thing our visitors see is Blowing Point and whatever we can do to enhance it not only affects that area, but all of us in Anguilla,” Benjamin stated. He added that the hotels should not be the only beautiful places but the whole of the island should be made attractive so that visitors could regard it “as a garden of the Caribbean.”

Mr. Benjamin added that the public address system was an important feature of communication at the port. The equipment was financed by his Group of Companies and the contribution of one month’s stipend paid to him and four other members of the Tourist Board- Sylvene Petty, Cossilda O’Loughlin, James Lake and Leslie Lloyd.

Carolyn Romney, one of the ferryboat bookers, expressed thanks for the equipment on behalf of all her colleagues.
