Immigration Department Awards Those With 20 Years of Service

Those who work in the immigration department are the first point of contact for all visitors to Anguilla and residents alike. Their position can affect the experience for all those who enter the shores of Anguilla and for that reason the job is paramount. On Wednesday, December 12, eight immigration officers were recognized and rewarded for 20 years of service or more at the Upper Level English Rose Restaurant.

In a very lavish and well prepared ceremony by Icilma Barry, the entire staff of the Immigration Department and Chief Ministers Office were invited along with other dignitaries including but not limited to Mr. Joseph N Payne, Pastor Cecil Richardson, Alkins Rogers, and Colville Petty. The awardees were James Proctor, Kenneth Brooks, Irmin Rogers, Ivor Hull, Karen Browne, Sandra Hodge, and Danette Webster.

Mr. Ken Hodge, Acting Permanent Secretary, made a formal welcome in which he commended al of the awardees for their commitment and dedication to the protection of Anguilla’s shores. He also pointed out how their jobs are now becoming increasingly more difficult with the influx of migrant workers and the rise in crime. Because of this, there are now plans to increase the number of staff from 39 to 62 next year. He also encouraged all workers to continue to be courteous and respectful, but firm with all visitors to Anguilla.
