Police Report On Offences In Anguilla


Police arrested three persons in Anguilla over the past week, according to Inspector Alice Proctor. One of them was a juvenile female, whose arrest was charged with possession of an offensive weapon, assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest. Another person was arrested for possession of a small amount of cannabis. The other arrest was for suspicion of theft.

Three burglaries were reported in The Valley, Rey Hill and South Hill and there were three thefts in Stoney Ground, Sandy Island and West End. There was one case of forgery and one case of criminal damage to a car.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Illidge Richardson, said investigations were still being carried out into a number of serious crimes, including murder on the island.

He also gave the latest information on the search for William Smith of Little Dix who has been missing for almost a month after taking a walk from his home. Richardson told the media representatives that the St. Maarten Police K9 team was in Anguilla on Tuesday this week, assisting in the search along with the local police and Smith’s family members.
No traces of the 70-year-old man were found in this latest search. A previous search turned up a shirt believed to belong to him was discovered in the surf area at Limestone Bay, Black Garden, west of Shoal Bay.

In another matter, the Deputy Commissioner reported that a reward was being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons who shot a US couple at Bow Green Villa at Blowing Point in January 2006. The victims, Frank and Ann Miller, were injured in the incident.

The couple are offering an award of US$25,000.
