Soroptimist Fair Fared Well Despite Rain |
| Publishing date: 07.12.2007 10:12 |
The Annual Fund-raising Fair of the Soroptimist Club of Anguilla turned out well on the grounds of Government House on Sunday, December 2, despite the rain that washed out the event the previous, more popular and convenient day.

Soroptimist President, Allison Carty, said it was a big disappointment when the fair was rained out. She was pleased, however, that many persons had come forward the next day to support the Club with their display stalls and to participate in its own activities. “I think that people came out and try to support us – probably not as much if it had been on a Saturday, but we appreciated their presence.”
The activities included a photo with “Santa”, various groups selling their products which included arts and crafts, cakes and tea. The Soroptimists took the opportunity to sell their recently-released cook book and other items of interest.

Another of the activities was the customary raffle which was won by Ricky Camacho of The Quarter. He won two nights accommodation at the Anguilla Great House.
In second place was Christopher Laing whose prize were grocery certificates in the sum of US$500 at J. W. Proctor and Lake’s Marketplace.

The third winner was Perrinette Hodge of East End. She won dinner for two at Blanchards Restaurant and at Zurra Restaurant. The fourth prize of a battery-operated drill was won by Solomon Bannister.
The Soroptimist President was grateful to Joe and Colin Burns who designed the Santa Claus sleigh, decorated the Christmas Tree and made 400 cookies and 200 toffee apples and donated a lot of gifts for the children.
The Soroptimist members are very appreciative of all the many hotels, restaurants and other business places that donated food, drink and prizes.
The funds raised will go towards the maintenance of the Soroptimist Day Care Centre.
