Inspector Allison Proctor said there were four burglaries in the areas of Deep Waters, Rey Hill, Welches and West End. The items stolen included a mattress and clothing. In two of the matters the complainants requested that no court action should be taken. The other two cases are being investigated.
There were three thefts in The Valley and Rey Hill. Among the stolen property were a wallet containing US$200 and personal effects, a car buffer machine and a schoolbag.
There was one case of criminal damage to a car in The Quarter. A mentally-ill person was taken into custody and given medication.
Fifteen persons were arrested during the week: four of them for breaching the Immigration Regulations, two for driving under the influence of alcohol or other drug; two for a breach of the peace; one on suspicion of burglary, one for causing actual bodily harm and one for grievous bodily harm, one for theft, two for possession of cannabis and one for possession of a firearm.
In an earlier matter, a member of the public informed the police about the discovery of a shotgun in the Water Swamp area. Responding to the information, the police found the weapon with one shell having been discharged. No one has been charged or arrested.
Meanwhile, Commissioner of Police, Keithly Benjamin, said things had been relatively quiet on the island during the past week, but the police were busily investigating prior incidents of burglary and other offences in various parts of Anguilla.
He reported that in the recent cases of burglary, it was reported to the police that jewellery amounting to US$55,000 had been taken from Prestige Jewellery Store when thieves broke into the Eldorado Mall at The Water Swamp.
He said the camera equipment there had recorded images of the burglars but because of the mask they wore it had not been possible to identify them. The Commissioner has advised all persons in Anguilla to be particularly careful during the coming Christmas season and to make certain that their possessions are adequately secured from marauding bandits.
