Viceroy, Anguilla: World Class Resort Cleans World Class Beach

A clean and attractive environment is one of the matters to take into consideration in marketing Anguilla as an up-scale destination. And the Sales Centre at Viceroy, Anguilla, has taken on the task of cleaning the island’s often-littered beaches as a step in that direction.

Property Adviser with Viceroy, Anguilla, Sean Wilbourne, who has been on the island for the past two months attached to the Sales Centre at Meads Bay, led a team of workers from his office to Sandy Hill Beach on Saturday, November 24, to clean the area. They were joined by a number of volunteers from the community.

“We are excited to be able to do this. We love Anguilla and we love the culture and the people. There has been so much given to us from Anguilla and we wanted the opportunity to give back and so this is the first of many more things of this kind that we are doing here,” he said. “We will do a number of beach clean-ups and some other volunteer work such as painting schools and other community work. We love to help in any way we can. We are going to have a long-term presence in Anguilla and it is important to us that everyone here enjoys our presence and also that we give back to the community.”

Mr. Wilbourne, who is originally from Atlanta and worked in the tourism industry in Florida for eight years, went on: “We’ve got here at Sandy Hill Beach some people from construction, some from operations and from our Sales Centre (all from Viceroy). The reason we chose Sandy Hill Bay [is that] a lot of locals like to come and enjoy themselves at this beach and so we wanted them to come here with us as well.”

Mr. Wilbourne said his team was happy with the support they had received from a number of local people who were glad to see them and to assist with the clean-up effort.

“Speaking for the group, obviously Anguilla’s beaches rank among the best in the world and we want tourists and locals alike to enjoy what is probably one of the best assets next to the culture of Anguilla – its beaches. So we figured that this would be a great opportunity for us to come here to manicure and take care of this fine beach.”
