Viceroy And Government Officials Discuss Plans

Members of Viceroy Anguilla’s Executive Committee met with the Government of Anguilla this week to provide a construction update of the 5-star resort and to present the company’s strategy for filling the 640 employment opportunities that will be created once the resort opens.

Ms Kathy Kaesmacher, Director of Human Resources, led the presentation and reiterated Viceroy’s commitment to continue to focus on the hiring of Anguillians to fill positions at all levels, and it was confirmed that Anguillian candidates are being identified for key heads of department and managerial positions. The assurance came during the presentation to government officials, which included representatives from the finance, tourism, immigration, labour, education and transportation sectors.

The Viceroy official said it was difficult to gauge the availability of the local workforce, but given the total number of workers required, there may be a need to recruit from overseas. The focus would be to firstly recruit Anguillians living abroad before looking further afield.

Mr. Jan Tibaldi, General Manager at Viceroy Anguilla, said it was important for Viceroy to continue to work closely with the Anguilla Tourism Board, the Anguilla Hotel and Tourism Association, the Anguilla Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Immigration Department and the Labour Department.

He advised that staff already hired, and representatives from the KOR Hotel Group, will be on hand to discuss career aspirations with prospective employees during a Job Fair planned for early in the new year. The operations team will also be attending the Anguilla Tourist Board’s Career Fair in November to help attract youngsters to the industry.

Viceroy Anguilla will offer their employees training to complement their philosophy of development for all and promoting from within. This training is dedicated to ensuring that employees are effectively trained in a number of key areas including job skills, orientation, customer service, cultural diversity and management.

A commitment was given to assist local communities and service clubs, schools and colleges to entice young people into the hospitality industry by offering placements, internships and training opportunities. Furthermore, Viceroy will partner with the community college and donate its time and expertise to help better prepare persons interested in the hospitality industry.

“Our goal is to be the employer of choice by offering our colleagues the best in training, benefits and opportunities. By doing this, we anticipate being able to deliver the best service to our guests making Anguilla the desired destination of the most discerning traveler,” Mr. Tibaldi added.
